The Canadian pyrotechnics team were named as Blackpool’s World Fireworks Champions for the second time in four years.

Firemaster Productions saw off competition from the French and Romanian teams with a spectacular display during the third heat of this year’s event.

The Canadian team, who have been producing world-class displays for over 10 years, won the same title on their last appearance in Blackpool in 2014.

The team’s success was announced on 5th October as UK’s favourite pyrotechnic team, Titanium, put on a spectacular show to close this year’s spectacular competition.

The displays are among the most popular events in Blackpool’s exciting calendar, featuring jaw-dropping displays – synched to music – by some of the most talented fireworks technicians in the world, attracting tens of thousands of spectators to Blackpool’s seafront each week.

Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said ‘This year has seen three exceptional displays and our congratulations go to Firemaster who did Canada proud with a superbly synchronised show. The World Fireworks Championship is a firm favourite in the Blackpool calendar, illustrated by the sheer number of people who turn out to watch.’

The winner was chosen by a panel of judges including Cllr Campbell; Peter Sedgwick, owner of Blackpool’s piers; and Cheryl Tchobanian, owner of the Beach House Bar and Bistro who again sponsored the judges’ area.
