Celebrate Wyre’s coastline this summer

Following the recent re-opening of Rossall promenade, Wyre Council is hosting a series of events this summer along its coastline, taking full advantage of the borough’s seaside setting.

On Saturday 4 August, you can enjoy a stroll along the promenade as it becomes home to live musicians and bands for the afternoon. From noon to 4pm you can enjoy music from samba band Poco Loco, Peter Moser the one man band, young bands and performers from UpBeat Academy and DJ sets by Boom Bike Bourree, with more acts to be announced.

If food is more your thing, don’t miss the Fylde Coast Food and Drink Festival at Marine Hall in Fleetwood. Come along on Sunday 12 August from 10am to 4pm where you can pick up some tasty treats from the many stalls inside the venue and outside in the gardens. Entry is free.

For families there are a number of beach craft events taking place at Rossall Point Tower where you can take part in fun craft activities using beach treasures and driftwood. There’s no need to book just come along to one of the drop in sessions on 2, 10, 26 and 29 August. The sessions run from 11am to 3pm with the last one starting at 2.30pm and are £2.50 per child.

There’s a conservation day taking place at Rossall Point Tower on Sunday 19 August. Meeting from 10am to 2pm you can try your hand at practical coastal conservation for free.
Plus, there’s a variety of guided walks, health walks and beach cleans taking place all summer.

Wyre Council is also supporting Love my Beach’s Active Coast campaign which encourages the use of the whole of the Fylde coast for sports and activities to improve health and wellbeing.
Councillor Lynne Bowen, “Now that the whole stretch of our promenade is open for everyone to enjoy, these events will really showcase our coastal areas and provide great days out for families across Wyre. Of course it’s not just about the beaches, we have many brilliant attractions including Marine Hall and Rossall Point Tower, which host events all year round. If you have never been to these lovely spots before I’d encourage you to make a visit this summer.”
