Free festive family fun all wrapped up at Fleetwood Market

It’s not a trick, we’ve a real treat in store for market shoppers this autumn/winter at Fleetwood Market. Artist in Residence Linda Copeland will be hosting a range of arts and crafts sessions from mid-October onwards. We then have a spooky magic show for Halloween weekend followed by lots of festive fun in December including strolling Christmas trees, Carol Singers and new for this year – our Cosy Living Room, which will reflect a traditional Lancashire Christmas.

On Saturday 14 October we kick start our bumper season of events with The Big Draw workshop – a drawing opportunity for all to join in. Whether you’re a serious artist or a creative doodler; pop along to our drop in session any time between 9.30am and 4pm. We will provide the walls of paper along with charcoals, crayons, pens and black paint. All you need to do is come along and make your mark at the market! (This event is linked to the national Big Draw event running throughout October.)

Say Hello to Halloween on Saturday 28 October when there will be lots of ghoulish activities to entertain the whole family plus prizes on offer if you take part in our fancy dress competition. There will also be a Halloween grotto to decorate in the main hall of the market. Why not come down early and join in the fun before our FREE Halloween show starts?

Our Kooky Spooky Halloween Magic Show is aimed at younger visitors to the market. From noon-2pm join vampire magician/illusionist “Abbie Normal” for some fiendish family fun. Balloon modelling will also be available after the show (small charge applies). The Magic show takes place at 1pm – 2pm.

More Halloween craft workshops will be on offer on Tuesday 31 October with sessions at 10.30am – 12.30pm and 2pm – 4pm. Get ready for Halloween with us – either by making a ‘Day of the Dead’ mask – or Butterfly decorating for younger children. Pop in anytime during market opening times. We will also paint faces for FREE! It’s the perfect opportunity to get ready for those trick or treat parties later on.

Linda will be welcoming visitors to her Lantern/Light craft workshop on Saturday 4 November as part of the build up to Fleetwood’s Firework Extravaganza on Sunday 5 November. Lanterns can be made using a traditional Chinese technique, from willow and tissue paper, building a structure in cane which is then covered with coloured tissue paper. For younger participants a simple paper lantern can be made by cutting and sticking coloured paper. Sessions take place at 10.30am – 12.30pm and 2pm- 4pm.

Our Cosy Living Room starts to take shape at Fleetwood Market on 7 November and customers can take part in its development every Tuesday throughout November. We want as many local folk as possible to get involved with setting up the Cosy Living Room which can then be enjoyed by all visitors throughout December. Situated in the main hall, this space will take a different spin on a Santa’s grotto as it will be a place where reminiscence sessions will be held and old artefacts can be found to reflect on Christmas memories. The Cosy Living Room will represent a traditional Lancashire Christmas and reminiscence sessions are taking place on Tuesday 5, Thursday 7, Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 December.

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the welcome sounds of Christmas Carols around our market halls. Local schools and community groups will sing songs of yester years during opening hours on Tuesday 5, Thursday 7, Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 December.

On Saturday 2 December we welcome an extraordinary puppet based walkabout theatre act from The Flying Buttresses. Meet Hodman Dodmanott and his beautiful wife Sally Forth. This memorable couple amble merrily through the crowds bringing laughter and joy wherever they go. Enjoy their hilarious attempts at Christmas shopping and carol singing (although singing may not be quite the right word!). Performances will be noon, 2pm and 3pm.

Bread & Butter Theatre Company promise “Festive Fun & Frolics” Saturdays 9 & 16 December. These colourful and festive characters, with their obligatory dodgy cracker jokes, will entertain the whole family. Children will love the idea of crackers coming to life, men will marvel at their golden bells and women will just want to ‘pull’ them! Everyone will want to take part in their ‘name that tune and we will sing it’ Christmas special (even requests for Shakin’ Stevens will be considered!). Catch them amongst our market stalls throughout the day at 11am, noon, 1.30pm & 2.30pm.

We’ll also have some “Surprises and Prizes” in store in early December courtesy of our Fleetwood Panto crew – oh no we haven’t, oh yes we have! Keep your eyes peeled.

All these exciting events take place at Fleetwood Market along Lancashire’s lovely coast. Our opening times are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9am – 4.30pm.
