Wyre Council and Fylde Coast YMCA are celebrating the reopening of the borough’s leisure centres this week and are delighted to welcome residents back safely to swimming and the gym.

After the huge public interest in the reopening of the centres, the YMCA is offering their best ever membership at their lowest ever sale price to help people make an easy choice to invest in their health, fitness and wellbeing after a difficult year.

Residents can make huge savings until 31 May this year, gaining a full year Y: Active Adult Membership for just £199 reduced from £299.

That’s unlimited access to every gym, swimming pool, fitness class and more across the YMCA Fylde Coast network for less than £4 a week.

Residents can take advantage of this £199 Y: Active Adult Membership offer until 31 May, with memberships also available on a monthly direct debit plan, also on offer until 31 May for just £25 per month.

Fylde Coast YMCA offers options to suit everyone, swimming enthusiasts can choose a Y: Aqua Membership, with Y: Teen Membership and Y: Kids Aqua options available too starting from as little as £12 a month.

It’s easy to sign up at www.ymcayactive.org or by calling into one of the open centres.

With national lockdown restrictions easing steadily in the coming weeks, Wyre Council and the YMCA are excited to once again offer residents the chance to get back into the gym and the pool followed by their favourite fitness classes in just a few weeks.

To the delight of many residents across Wyre, the gyms at Thornton and Garstang Leisure Centres reopened this week, with the gym and pool at Fleetwood and the pool at Garstang on track to reopen on 1 May. The YMCA will keep the centre at Poulton under review, with a view to reopening it before September. In the meantime Poulton leisure centre is being used as a coronavirus testing centre, providing a vital service for people leaving home to work.

Fitness classes at the open centres will start again 17 May in line with the current roadmap.

John Cronin, CEO at Fylde Coast YMCA explains, “We have seen a great turn out at our open centres so far this week. It has been incredible to see the centres open again and we hope to continue to welcome back familiar faces as well as greeting some new ones!”

“We have worked hard behind the scenes to ensure the centres are COVID-secure and safe to visit. We want our local communities to make full use of the facilities on offer. Staff at the centres are happy to show people all the safety measures that have been put in place, helping people to feel safe and ready to get their fitness back on track.”

Marianne Hesketh, Corporate Director of Communities at Wyre Council adds, “The return of Wyre’s YMCA leisure facilities to residents is a huge step in the right direction for the future success of these great centres.”

“We all know getting active boosts immunity levels as well as physical and mental wellbeing and we hope that many of our residents can make a commitment to supporting and using these facilities and that people will celebrate the reopening by visiting and joining.”
