At the awards ceremony which took place on 2nd October, Poulton New Cemetery was awarded gold in the medium cemetery category at the annual awards.

The cemetery, located on Garstang Road East, offers burial graves, memorial plaques, woodland burial, a baby garden of remembrance, cremated remains graves and a chapel service. It was one of three shortlisted for the award.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement commented, ‘This award really showcases the work of our officers that provide and maintain such a peaceful and beautiful cemetery. We pride ourselves on offering a range of options to honour and remember the bereaved and we’re so pleased that we’ve been recognised for this.’

The awards are an excellent opportunity to reward the hard-working staff and demonstrate the central role cemeteries or churchyards can play in the community as places of peaceful contemplation and beauty.

The competition aims to promote freedom of choice, encouraging cemeteries or churchyards to provide a variety of burial and cremation areas and emphasise the comfort that well-maintained cemeteries or churchyards bring to the bereaved and their historical, social and ecological importance to the community.
