Support available for lonely older people in Fylde

Age UK Lancashire are delighted to be able to offer a free Befriending service across the Fylde area to support some of the most vulnerable older people in the area. The project has been set up with the financial support of the Soroptimist (Fylde) group, who were shocked by just how serious loneliness can be to a person’s physical and mental wellbeing.
As Anne Oliver, Community Engagement Manager explains “There are many older people across Fylde who are isolated and lonely and Age UK Lancashire and its volunteers are able to provide them with much needed support through our Befriending service. We were thrilled to receive this offer of support from the Soroptimists who have a real connection with the Fylde Community and are keen to support this valuable service. “
Jane Pinnock, Treasurer of the Soroptimist (Fylde) Limited said “we are delighted to be able to support this befriending service which will provide friendship and support for the most lonely and vulnerable older people in our community.”
Anyone who feels lonely or may know of a neighbour or friend looking for extra support or who may be housebound should contact Age UK Lancashire either by visiting their office on St George’s Road, Lytham Saint Annes or by calling 0300 303 1234 or emailing [email protected] . The charity will then be able to support you into the Befriending project. People can also access information on other services and support they may benefit from.
Anne Oliver added “as a charity our main aim is to support those older people who need our help the most and help them avoid a crisis. The befriending service is one of many ways in which we can help and is a really positive way to enhance people’s wellbeing. We are also keen to encourage people to volunteer for the service and would be delighted to hear from anyone who is interested in joining us as a befriender”.
