Wyre Council is on the hunt for this year’s sporting stars

Do you know someone who is a sporting star? Someone who always gets a group or team motivated? Then get nominating!

Wyre Council is looking for sports personalities to showcase the borough’s sporting passion and hopefully go forward to represent the region at this year’s Lancashire Sports Awards.

Wyre’s Sports Awards celebrate excellence and dedication in local sport and recognise the coaches, volunteers and clubs who have made a real difference. They celebrate sporting achievements across the borough and pay tribute to those who have shown commitment and enthusiasm in order to achieve sporting excellence, and to those who have dedicated their time and efforts to individuals or clubs.

All the winners will go forward to represent Wyre at the Lancashire Sports Awards, the largest celebration of amateur sport in the county, which takes place in November.

Clubs, coaches, players, parents, schoolteachers and friends are asked to nominate people of all ages who deserve to be recognised for their efforts in sport and activity over the last year.

The categories this year are:

· Volunteer of the year
· Coach of the year
· Club of the year
· Lifetime achievement award
· Service to underrepresented groups
· Community project of the year
· Young achiever of the year
· Primary school of the year
· Secondary school of the year

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement for Wyre comments: “We have lots of talented sporting young people in our borough as well as many inspirational and hardworking coaches and volunteers. These awards give us the chance to thank these people and to praise them for their dedication.”

The deadline for nominations is Friday 13 July 2018.
